FGV Delegation Begins China Visit under the Platform for China-Brazil Green Food Value Chain

On September 7, a series of exchange activities under the Platform for China-Brazil Green Food Value Chain (CBP) was launched in Beijing. The CBP is jointly led by FGV Agro at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), the Center for International Agricultural Research (CIAR) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), focusing on China-Brazil cooperation in green agricultural value chains, with particular emphasis on research and exchange concerning the sustainable development of soybean and beef value chains. Representatives from China and Brazil, including those from research institutions, international organizations, and partner institutions, met to discuss the CBP’s development, priority areas for cooperation, and next steps.

Focusing on China-Brazil cooperation in green agricultural value chains, participants held in-depth discussions on soybean and beef production systems, sustainable land management, and cooperation in agriculture and the environment. Experts from the Agricultural Information Institute, the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development; Peking University; the Research Institute of Forestry Policy and Information, Chinese Academy of Forestry; and the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Commerce shared findings from relevant research and exchanged views on potential cooperation in industry development, natural resource and environmental protection, and policy coordination. The discussions deepened mutual understanding of key issues concerning agricultural value chains in China and Brazil and provided useful input for strengthening exchanges between research institutions and deepening cooperation in related fields.

The visit is an important activity in advancing the development of the CBP. Over the coming week, the two sides will hold a series of activities focusing on soybean and beef value chains, including a thematic roundtable on soybean and beef value chains; a seminar on economic modelling, risk assessment, and agricultural trade; a seminar on green finance; and a policy dialogue on agricultural trade and sustainable governance. The delegation will also conduct field visits to relevant enterprises. By combining thematic discussions with field visits, the two sides will further exchange views on agricultural trade, supply chains, traceability, and sustainable development, helping to define priorities for the CBP’s next phase and support follow-up research and exchanges.
